We’re always looking for creative ways to give leftover crops a second life. In this video, Brandon shows how we transform what would normally be waste—like late-season Kalamata olives and fallen black walnuts—into beautiful, all-natural fabric dyes.
Instead of raking away olives that are no longer good for eating, we process them into a golden amethyst purple dye. Black walnuts, on the other hand, yield a rich, deep brown that binds to fabric with incredible intensity. Together, they prove how everyday farm byproducts can become something unexpected and beautiful.
The process takes time and patience, but the results are worth it: silk scarves dyed in earthy purples and browns, each one unique to the harvest that made it.
This project is part of our mission to explore sustainability in playful, hands-on ways. By rethinking waste, we open the door to new crafts, natural art projects, and a deeper connection to the land around us.
